My entry for 's contest spadiekitchenqueen.deviantart.… Shari belongs to
I finished this at 3AM, because otherwise I knew I wouldn't be able to pick it up again before the end of the deadline and I wasn't about to waste a whole month of work by not finishing my entry in time. Being stupidly stubborn has its advantages sometimes.
That said, I really enjoyed making this. I loved Shari's design and I bet she's just as interesting as a character. I do believe I made some changes that may difference her slightly from =chenria 's, namely, she's not as dark skinned as she should be. That is all due to my lack of practice drawing darker skins. I need to work that out. I'm really happy with my anatomy (feet! damn). It took me a long long time and a lot of sketch correction and it's filled with mistakes, but it's the best I've done so far. Overall, it was very tiring, but I really enjoyed drawing her.
And for the first time in 2 years, I used a pencil for the finished drawing. The slight tone in the background was done with pencil because I wanted to try and see how it worked out to help her stand out, and though I actually started it in pen, after the pencil trial I decided to leave it that way. Everything else is ballpoint pen.
Shari also worked as a great way to draw women and hopefully make me more confortable into drawing my own concubine character, whom will hopefully someday make her debut.
I owe thanks to Marcus Ranum `mjranum-stock and model Carly Champagne for the beautiful stock reference mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/a…
10 hours work more or less, throughout a whole month. A4 size, sketch done with mechanical pencil (as well as the gradient in the background) + pencil-eraser, the actual drawing is black + yellow + green + orange ballpoint pen.
